Can An Experienced Internet Marketer Really Teach A Newbie?
After a comment by James a few days ago about what he recommended that I would tell a newb about earning money online I haven’t been able to get the question out of my head.
At the time I just answered with the typical – focus on one thing, take action – answer (which I still believe to be true), but is this really enough for a someone new who doesn’t even know WHAT they want to focus on or HOW to take action.
Do I take it for granted that new players know enough of the basics to get started, or do I need to go back to grass roots here and hand hold them with keyword research, setting up a blog/hubpage, and ways to get backlinks and/or traffic?
I have a feeling that I (not deliberately mind you) leave out a lot of the puzzle when I tell people how to make money online.
So tell me… if you are a new marketer who hasn’t yet starting earning anything (or not much) online, what DO you need help with?

Hi Tracey,
Just started reading your blog after seeing you comment on Dave’s blog.
I am one of those new IM guys who just seems to struggle to get started. I really struggle with the first hurdle I think and I don’t know what the problem is.
The techie stuff is no problem as I work in IT. Buying domain names, hosting, setting up web pages etc are all fine for me.
I used to right for a games journal website so the 250-350 word posts are not a problem for me at all.
I struggle with finding niches. The problem here is that nobody can do it for you. People can offer techniques on how they find their niches but its difficult to come by one that I find easy to follow.
So there are my problems. Once I find the information needed to get past that hurdle then I can start to focus on earning some money or at least learning how to,
Colin
Hey Colin,
Let me know if my new post helps any.
Take care
Tracey
Thanks for the link, Tracey – I was curious if you ever were asked that – like you I wonder where to start.
The question was so wide-open that I offered links to my blog roll, Dave’s, yours (blogs that is)…Grizz’s…(not even sure how up-to-date Grizz’s blog is: I’ve never read it yet).
Anyway, an orientation as it were: where do you turn for all that? It was posed by someone who’s a stay at home mom, I believe single, and not able to work…
Thanks for the follow up!
That’s an interesting question and is one that I am living right now, not that I am all that experienced mind you. I will be writing more about this on my blog and answering the questions that my friend who is wanting to start making money online. Rather than telling him what to do, listening to the questions he is asking is an eye opener that makes me realize I am a bit more experienced than I thought.
Tracey,
thank you so much for doing this! i just stumbled upon this blog and i’m loving it! i think i’ve read just about everything. you seem so down to earth and easy to talk to/reply to any question… this will keep ME coming back to your blog.
i’m just starting too =(
i have a non-competitive niche and want to promote amazon products using wordpress blog, that will have a lot of articles. do i post all the articles at once, or spread them out, every day or so?
thank you sooooo much,
all your help is highly appreciated!
Hi Magaza,
Thanks so much for visiting my blog. I’m glad you like it
I think it’s great that you want to promote Amazon products with a wordpress blog. Exactly what I do (mostly).
I would suggest you add the articles as you write them. If you’ve already got a few written put them up now, and the rest keep adding them once you’ve written them. The longer they are on your blog and live the better chance they have of making you some money! No need to wait until you have so many ready to go – just get them up there!
Good luck and let me know how you go.
Tracey
