I'm making money online so I don't have to get a Job
18 Feb
I’ve had quite a few people ask me how to put classified ads on eBay, so it’s time to get back to basics.
There are two ways to list a classified ad on eBay: through Turbo Lister and through eBay’s sell your item page.
If you want a detailed look at using Turbo Lister (I use Turbo Lister – it’s so much easier) then grab my free classified ad report – you’ll also get some email tips from me for creating hot ads:
>> Click here to get your free classified ads on eBay report <<.
Now if you want to use eBay’s sell your item page here is how to do it on ebay.com:
1. Go to eBay’s Sell an Item page. You’ll see a default page with a big blue button that says Start Selling. Click that button.
2. You may be asked to sign in if you are not already signed in.
3. Now you should be on a page that is asking you to enter 3 words about your item so that it can suggest a category to you. Put anything you like here – you can change it later.
4. eBay only allows you to list Classified Ads in certain categories. I usually list most of mine in Information Products > Other. You can get a full list of which categories that eBay allows here. Choose your category and press continue.
5. Fill in all the details about your ad. If you scroll down the page you should see a section where you can ‘Choose how you’d like to sell your item’. If you have chosen a category that allows Classified Ads then you’ll see a tab for that. If you don’t see it, go back up the top and click the link that says change category and choose a category that supports the classified ad format.
6. After you are happy with everything and how it looks click on continue where you can review your listing before you let it go live.

Hi Tracey,
I just started reading your Ebay Classified Ads book and got distracted right away by your wonderful blog. Guess I’ll get back to the book. I ordered another book similar to yours but I think some of the items are outdated so I’m looking for the right way to do it now.
Give to get! I’ll be trying it on Ebay. Thanks.
Hi Tracey,
Thanks for explaining how to post under eBay classifieds. Great job!
Hi Tracey, I want to buy your book but it looks as though I cannot place classified ads. I have followed your instructions and there isn’t an option to place a classified no matter what category I choose. I choose category Everything else> Information products> How to guides> ‘Choose how you’d like to sell your item’ doesn’t give the option for classified ad – just the option to create a normal auction or fixed price.
Please help so i can get your book and start with this.
Hi Derek,
Are you listing in the US? Because the Everything Else > Info Products category should give you the classifed ad option (as well as the other two.
t
No, i want to list in the UK as I only want to sell (physical product and get leads) for UK customers. I thought it may of been because i only have a feedback of 3. So i tried on my daughters account fb of 43 and still no classified option, so i checked allowed categories for UK and it’s not the same as US.
Is there a way to list in the US and have your classified displayed for the UK ebayers tracey?
Yes thats right. UK has completely different categories than the US.
Unfortunately you can’t list a classified ad in the US and have it show in the UK (unlike regular ebay auctions where you can do this).
Are you actually selling physical products, or just promoting them as an affiliate?
t
Selling them. It’s a newish product in the market and there are more and more companies selling usig the normal auction and bin formats. My idea was to save fees and funnel leads through to my site by using classifieds to promote a guide “10 things you should consider before you buy (the product).” With a featured ad I was hoping to appear above the competition for a fraction of the
price.
Obviously I don’t want you to spill the whole beans but I’m not sure if classifieds ads will allow me to do this.
I have checked out the cassifieds already listed in the category that i am interested in under ‘Local services’ as I can use this category for my classified but the advertisers already there do not show too much traffic.
Have ebay buyers got to have ’show classified ads’ filter on to enable classifieds too show when they are searching for products to buy or do classifieds automatically show. I have done a few searches and cannot see classifieds appearing?
Any further help with Tracey is appreciated. If you think I would be able to do this using classifieds I will buy your ebook.
I actually think you can do this without classified ads. Here is what I suggest.
Set up regular auctions or bin’s for your products. Have a few going at the same time but all finishing on different days so you can test which day works best for you. I wouldn’t worry too much about the fee’s as long as you make a profit.
Have a link on every auction that you run to your about me page for your free guide. Use your About Me page to capture leads for your free guide.
You are allowed to post links to any other page inside ebay and you are allowed one opt in form on your about me page.
I think this method will work a lot better for you. Let me know how it goes.
Thank you Tracey, I will do this and let you know how it works out.
What are the categories where you can post classified ads? I never did find that listing.
Thanks,
Micheal
Hi Micheal,
The categories for classified ads are: http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/adformatfees.html
hope that helps!
Tracey
Hi Tracey,
Just wonder if you can post classified ads on ebay Australia as I can’t seem to find it? If I can’t how do I set up a US account if I live in Australia?
Thanks,
Jess
Hi Jess,
Just use your regular australian ebay details to log into ebay.com
Take care
Tracey
