The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Making Money Online

I was very lazy in January.

I wrote this post at the start of the year about how I was going to write lots of articles, do lots more Squidoo lenses, and do lots of things to increase my rankings.

You know what; I didn’t do any of it.

And I don’t plan to either.

Because I’ve found being lazy is much more productive and much more profitable.

Instead of doing more lenses I just picked the ones that were already making money (about seven of them did the most money for me) and hired someone on fiverr to write some articles which I then broke up into 150 word snippets and posted them on Build My Rank. Those lenses are doing great now. Lazy work accomplished. Total work time, maybe 10 minutes? Total cost around $25. Total revenue earned (nice amazon $$)

And I gave up on EZA after a few people stole my articles without my resource box. I sent those scraping losers a firm email. I don’t want to write for EZA for people to steal my work.

So I got lazy and wrote for BMR instead. Because they will keep my links intact and it’s much easier to write 150 words than it is to write 500+ . Total work time, 1 hour a day writing BMR’s (I can usually crank out quite a few in an hour).

And lazy is paying off. My adsense income is increasing. It was my second highest earner for January. Yah.

I’m going to continue to be lazy and work smarter.

This post is only going to be short. I’m too lazy to write any more.

  1. Lazy ;)

  2. How much does it cost to use BMR Tracey? Looking at their website they don’t seem to mention that one important fact.

    • $59 per month. Sounds expensive I know – but well worth it ;) I think that’s for the lowest plan which you can build links to 5 different websites and it goes up from there. But if you have more websites, you can archive some each month and add more so you only work on 5 at a time (I actually joined when it was unlimited websites but they recently changed their pricing structure).

It’s pretty powerful though. I can get a squidoo lens to page one with around 20 or so BMR links. Just started using them on my actual sites and so far doing well with adsense, so I’ll keep you posted.

  3. Tracey interesting post for sure, I just started using BMR and I’m probably lazier then you, lol..so I’d be interested to hear more about how you managed it.

When you say about 20 BMR links per lens, are you varying the anchor within the 150 word, and titles? I definitely don’t want tp pay 2.50 a link and writing is a pain, haha

    • Yep I’m varying the anchor. To make it quick I’ll do a search for an article that already is about my topic, read through it and then rewrite in my own words a few times. Sometimes I’ll make up a story instead: “Yesterday I was at my friends house and she had a [product] and I was so jealous, so I …’
When you only have to write 150 words it’s pretty easy to crank out a few.

Oh… and check Fiverr, there is a chick on there who will write 5 x 150 articles for $5 .. she doesn’t always have the gig up though cause it’s pretty popular.

      • Tracey, thanks…I’ve made some posts now but mostly have done 1 BMR post per lens, but how many will you submit in a day for 1 lens?

Do you go for the whole chabang and do 10, or just 2-3..per lens crank out your daily 10. Then see how it responds, and write more later. I’m just trying to figure out the most effective use of BMR

        • I started with 5-6 per lens but only saw a little bit of movement. (yes mostly did them all on the one day – but BMR scheduled them so they never all went out together). Didn’t see dramatic movement until I did about 20 per lens (spread out over a week) though.

My usual schedule is about 6 per day though – 3 in the morning, 3 in the arvo.

  4. OOOH I hear that! I’m just outsourcing backlinks to pages that are already making money. LAZY and love it!!

  5. I heard about BMR and visited the site. I have 5 site that i am trying to move up. Do you think it is worth it and do you think it is worth their writing service as well?

    • haven’t used their writing service – I’ve either been writing them myself or getting people off fiverr to do it. $2.50 per link sounds expensive to me to use their service. But they probably have better quality than I’ve been getting ;)

As for whether your five sites would benefit then I would say yes.

The only sites that haven’t improved for me using it are those that are already penalised, all other regular sites work really well with it.

  6. I Love Lazy!

  7. Lazy rocks. I too think it pays better dividends to focus on improving something that already shows results. BMR rocks too., I can write about 10/hour. Well, I could, if I didn’t get all tired and sick of talking about how much I love cheap white socks. But BMR is still good.

    • Ash I totally agree. I think being lazy has actually helped me focus on what is working and not bother about what isn’t. Before I was always trying to improve stuff that wasn’t doing so well – but I just can’t be bothered anymore. Plus I used to put off doing things I didn’t enjoy – now I can just outsource it or forget about it.

Oh and yes I’m LOVVVING BMR. They really rock. Brilliant for ranking pages.

  8. just wondered if you could give your heads up on what you consider to be an ideal squidoo lens in terms of layout, content(including number of words, keyword quantity etc) pics and links(how many where to place them)etc? Would also appreciate some examples of ones you think are good and why. Thanks

  9. Blackthorne says:

Like you, I am one lazy SOB.

I advise you to get lazier and outsource.

    Laziness is where it’s at.

  10. Lazy is good. Honestly wouldn’t call it lazy. I did learn a few things here and will focus on the lenses. Thank you!
Gotta stick with elbow grease for a few more months before hiring this out.

    • Hi Holly,

Yes, elbow grease is definately the key to making it all work (either your own or someone else’s). Good luck with it. t

  11. Hi Tracey
Just found your site, looks like I”ll be up for another hour!

I really like the Theme you use here, would you mind sharing what it is, I guess it might be Thesis.

Thank you both for great info!

    • Glad you like the info Vince,

Err the theme is just a free one from wordpress. Platform or something I think.

  12. Hi Tracey,

I just checked out the fiverr site you mentioned. Could you recommend a good gig to help promote my new website?? What is the best option. Facebook likes, backlinks?

    Thank you
